Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He made the call during a meeting with political stakeholders in Rivers State, where he also sought support from the camp loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike said politicians were competing to demonstrate their contributions to Tinubu’s anticipated victory, hoping to secure political benefits after the election. According to him, political actors want the president to recognise the votes they deliver and reward their efforts in the next administration.

“There is something going on now, like a competition. Everybody wants to say, ‘Mr. President (Tinubu), we are the ones that made you to win, see the number of votes we brought, what is our own stake?’” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor insisted that PDP members should support Tinubu, regardless of their party affiliation. “Everybody in PDP must support Mr. President, that’s what we are doing. Everybody will collapse and vote for Mr. President,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to mobilising support for the president ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, Wike clarified that backing Tinubu for president did not mean supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in every election in Rivers State. He maintained that local political interests would shape decisions concerning governorship and legislative contests, adding: “But politics is local; we can’t allow them to take everything. I won’t go empty-handed.” His position reflects his push for Tinubu’s re-election while seeking to protect his political interests in Rivers State.
