The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, has directed senior officers to intensify patrols, surveillance and raids on identified criminal black spots ahead of the 2027 general elections. The directive is aimed at strengthening security operations and preventing criminal activities across Abuja and its surrounding communities.

Mr Sanusi gave the order during a meeting with senior officers of the FCT Police Command, including Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). He urged them to strengthen operational strategies and ensure that police personnel maintained a visible presence in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activities.

The commissioner also directed officers to sustain intelligence gathering and take action against identified criminal hideouts. The planned raids are expected to target locations associated with criminal activities, while increased surveillance will help the command monitor potential security threats across the territory.

The measures come as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, a period in which security agencies are expected to protect residents, electoral officials and other stakeholders. Intensified police operations are intended to help prevent criminal activities from disrupting public safety and the smooth conduct of electoral activities in the FCT.

The police command is expected to continue coordinating security operations across its area commands and divisions as preparations for the elections progress. The directive places emphasis on proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and closer monitoring of identified hotspots to maintain law and order in Abuja.
