The incident reportedly occurred between 9.30pm and 10pm on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle, within the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The deceased, identified as Omole Taiwo, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries after ASP Olajide discharged his firearm during a police operation in the area. The second girl was also hit by bullets and is currently receiving medical attention.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, officers were deployed to the area following a distress call about a violent confrontation between two rival groups, identified as Nosamu Boys and Alayabiagba Boys.
The groups were reportedly involved in a dispute over toll collection and were said to be armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons when the police arrived.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed in a statement on Saturday, November 7, that preliminary investigations indicated that ASP Olajide discharged his firearm during the operation, hitting both children.
She explained that the victims were initially rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for treatment. However, Omole Taiwo was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she later died.

The second victim is said to be in stable condition and remains under medical care.
Following the incident, ASP Olajide was disarmed and detained, while the investigation was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and impartial inquiry.

The command stated that the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the appropriate legal and disciplinary measures.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has visited the bereaved family to express his condolences over the loss.
He assured the family that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that justice would be pursued. He also stressed that no police officer found culpable would be protected from the consequences of their actions.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives, maintaining professionalism and ensuring accountability among its personnel.
The police have also appealed to members of the public with relevant information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or the command’s Public Relations Department.
While the officer remains in detention, the investigation is expected to establish precisely how the firearm was discharged and the circumstances that led to the death of the young girl.
