#A Message from a Nigerian in the US: Embrace Gratitude and Appreciation for Our Homeland

This is a message from a Nigerian residing in the US, and it’s worth sharing!

NEVER CRITICIZE YOUR COUNTRY

1. If you’re unaware of your blessings, you might mistakenly believe that your father’s farm is inferior to your friend’s.

2. $1 equals ₦1,500, so what?

3. Let me clarify from my experience. Can anyone in the US use $1 for breakfast? No!

4. Yet in Nigeria, ₦1,500 can cover both breakfast and lunch.

5. The majority of people’s monthly rent for a self-contained apartment in the USA is $1,000 and above… and that equals your rent for two years!

6. Have you ever paid for insurance? In the US, insurance costs $280, almost ₦100,000 monthly.

7. When did you last pay your monthly phone bills? I pay almost ₦40,000 monthly; otherwise, they’ll block my SIM. Your MTN line can sit dormant for months without a recharge.

8. When was the last time you worked on Saturday and Sunday?

9. I do this compulsorily and regularly.

10. Don’t get me wrong; the US is better than Nigeria, depending on your perspective.

11. Do you want the truth?

12. Many Nigerians in Nigeria lead more fulfilling lives than their counterparts abroad.

13. Disregard the facade on social media and appreciate the good life you’re living.

14. Do you know why Nigerians in the US rush back quickly when visiting home?

15. Because bills are accumulating, and prolonged absence jeopardizes their lives.

16. If you, as a black person, try to imitate the whites, they’ll kneel on your neck.

17. Aside from Congo, no citizens globally enjoy life more than Nigerians.

18. You’re abundantly blessed, but you may not realize it until you get a visa and move abroad, then you’ll understand that your 8-hour job in Nigeria with weekends off is a great deal.

19. With an 11-hour job abroad, you can only cover bills; you need additional 6 to 8 hour jobs to save and plan for the future.

20. The truth is that the grass is green everywhere; it’s the lack of vision, greed of our leaders, and skewed religious practices (emphasizing miracles) that have confined Nigeria to a myopic standstill.

21. Always express gratitude wherever you find yourself. Nigeria is good and will get better.

22. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
