Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has revealed that members who founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition reportedly took an oath committing to prioritise national interest over personal ambitions.
Dalung made the disclosure during an appearance on a podcast, where he explained that the agreement was intended to ensure unity and prevent individual interests from overriding the coalition’s original purpose.
He said the oath was meant to keep members focused on the collective goal of building a stronger political platform for Nigeria, rather than advancing personal political ambitions.
However, he expressed disappointment that some members have allegedly deviated from that commitment, noting that internal disagreements and personal ambitions have weakened the cohesion of the group.
According to him, while the coalition is not completely dissolved, it is no longer as strong or united as it was at its formation.
Dalung maintained that political disagreements were expected but insisted that the original vision of the coalition had been affected by growing internal divisions.
He added that the situation reflects a shift away from shared purpose toward individual political interests, which he believes has reduced the group’s effectiveness.
