ADC CRISIS: KACHIKWU FAULTS CONVENTION, SAYS IT’S ‘POLITICAL GANGSTERISM’

Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly criticised the party’s recent national convention, describing it as illegitimate and a violation of a subsisting court order.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Kachikwu claimed that a Federal High Court had ordered all parties in the ongoing leadership dispute to maintain the status quo ante bellum, effectively halting any congresses or conventions pending the resolution of the case.

He alleged that despite the court directive, a faction of the party proceeded with a convention, which he described as unlawful and politically reckless.

Kachikwu accused those involved of engaging in what he termed “political gangsterism,” claiming their actions were aimed at destabilising the party and, by extension, the country’s democratic order.

He further argued that the convention lacked policy direction, criticising speeches delivered at the event as being focused on blame rather than offering solutions to national challenges.

The former ADC candidate also linked the internal party crisis to broader political developments, accusing some opposition figures of failing to adequately address insecurity and national issues.

He warned that Nigeria’s fragile political environment could worsen if political actors continue to ignore court rulings and undermine institutional processes.

Kachikwu insisted that the legitimate structure of the ADC remains committed to due process and is preparing for its own convention in line with the law.

He also directed criticism at President Bola Tinubu, saying the administration had not succeeded in unifying the country after the last general election and calling for stronger efforts toward national cohesion.

The comments highlight growing tensions within the ADC, where competing factions continue to dispute leadership legitimacy ahead of future political activities.
