ADC EXPLAINS ATIKU’S ABSENCE FROM G100 OPPOSITION SUMMIT IN ABUJA
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has explained why its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was not present at the G100 opposition summit held in Abuja.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Day Break on Tuesday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the meeting was designed mainly for political parties to discuss possible cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections, rather than for individual presidential candidates.
According to him, Atiku’s absence did not affect the ADC’s participation because the party was adequately represented at the gathering.
Abdullahi said he attended the summit alongside several senior ADC officials, including about four vice chairmen, who represented the party during the discussions.
He explained that the summit provided an opportunity for opposition parties to explore areas of collaboration and develop a possible common strategy for challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
The meeting was held on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja and featured representatives from six major opposition parties.
However, several prominent opposition figures were absent, including Atiku, Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as representatives of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Among the presidential candidates who attended were Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Moses Adebisi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance.
The summit forms part of ongoing efforts by opposition parties to find common ground and strengthen cooperation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
