ADC HAILS COURT VERDICT ON INEC GUIDELINES, PREDICTS DEFECTIONS FROM APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has praised a recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that reviewed key parts of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) regulations, particularly those relating to deadlines for party primaries and voter-related procedures.

In a statement released on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the judgement supported its earlier objections to certain provisions in the electoral guidelines introduced by INEC.

The ADC explained that it had previously challenged rules concerning membership registration timelines and the conduct of party primaries, arguing that they were inconsistent with constitutional provisions. According to the party, the court’s decision affirmed those concerns and highlighted the need for electoral rules to fully comply with the Constitution.

The opposition party also welcomed the aspect of the ruling that eased restrictions on politicians seeking to contest elections through alternative political parties, describing it as a win for political freedom and democratic choice.

It further alleged that the disputed regulations were designed to discourage defections from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the judgement could influence future political movements. The party expressed confidence that more politicians may switch allegiance in the coming period.
