The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State has criticized former governor Okwesilieze Nwodo following claims that he was seen sleeping during the party’s national convention held in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Enugu ADC Media Team and signed by Obed Chukwu, the party also reaffirmed that Major General Chris Sunday Eze (retd.) remains the duly elected state chairman of the party in the state.
The party said it was not surprised by the incident, alleging that Nwodo has been working in alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a claim it linked to his alleged political activities and past public comments.

According to the statement, the party accused him of attempting to influence the direction of the ADC in Enugu State ahead of future elections, while insisting that committed members had rejected such moves.

The ADC further alleged that internal opposition within the party is being driven by individuals backed by external political interests, which it claims are aimed at destabilizing its structure in the state.

It maintained that its legitimate leadership remains intact under Major General Eze, describing him as the authentic chairman elected in line with party guidelines and constitution.
The party also dismissed claims of factional division, insisting that what exists is a coordinated attempt to weaken its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
