The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State has inaugurated a committee tasked with selecting a running mate for its governorship candidate ahead of the next general elections.
The party had earlier elected former House of Representatives member, Herman Hembe, who represented the Konshisha/Vandeikya Federal Constituency, as its governorship flagbearer during its primary election.

Following a directive from the candidate, the party leadership on Monday constituted a committee to carefully screen and recommend a suitable deputy governorship candidate.
Speaking during the inauguration on behalf of the state chairman, the party secretary, Peter Chirzenden, said the selection process would be guided by strict criteria including integrity, commitment to democratic values, and loyalty to the party’s ideology.

He explained that the committee was made up of individuals of proven character and experience, chosen to ensure a credible and competitive selection process ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chirzenden stressed that the party was not merely looking for a placeholder, but a running mate who would contribute meaningfully to party growth, strengthen internal cohesion, and improve its electoral chances.

He added that the ideal candidate must possess strong democratic principles, integrity, and the ability to help boost the party’s popularity across the state.
The committee includes Senator Orke Jev, Engr. Okpe Onah, AVM Steve Onuh, Mrs Rose Ameh, Barr. Ogah Okwu, Prof. David Salifu, Hon. Jack Mulya, Mrs Abeje Egwa, and Hon. Alex Igwe.

The panel has been given until June 20 to submit its report on the recommended candidate.
Chairman of the committee, Okpe Onah, assured party members that the group would carry out its assignment diligently and recommend a candidate capable of strengthening the party’s chances in the upcoming governorship election.
