ADELEKE DEMANDS OSUN POLICE COMMISSIONER’S REMOVAL, ALLEGES BIAS AND COMPROMISE

Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate redeployment of Ibrahim Gotan, accusing him of bias and alleging that he has been compromised ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

The governor made the demand while receiving a delegation sent by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to assess the security situation in the state following recent incidents of political violence. According to Adeleke, the police commissioner has failed to demonstrate impartiality and has lost the confidence of many residents.

Adeleke said the state deserves fair and professional policing based on the rule of law rather than partisan interests. He insisted that his administration was not seeking preferential treatment but was demanding equal protection for lives, property, and the democratic process.

“The Commissioner of Police has demonstrated a lack of willingness and capacity to act fairly and without partisan bias,” the governor said, adding that there is a growing consensus among Osun residents that the commissioner should be redeployed to restore public trust.

The governor urged the police delegation to relay the concerns of the Osun State Government to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that a peaceful and credible governorship election depends on impartial security agencies. He called for a restructuring of the state police command to ensure free, fair, and violence-free polls.

His remarks come amid heightened political tension in Osun State, where protests and calls from some civil society groups and residents have also demanded the redeployment of the police commissioner over allegations of partisanship.
