Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year at a prestigious ceremony held on Monday evening in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The 27-year-old Lookman, who plays for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, edged out strong contenders, including Achraf Hakimi, Ronwen Williams, Serhou Guirassy, and Simon Adingra, to claim the coveted prize.
This marks Lookman’s first CAF Player of the Year award, making him the sixth Nigerian to win the title after football legends Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amunike, Victor Ikpeba, Victor Osimhen, and Rashidi Yekini.
Women’s Category Highlights
In the Women’s category, Zambia’s Barbra Banda was named Women’s Player of the Year, celebrating her exceptional achievements with Orlando Pride and her national team.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie retained the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the second consecutive time. Adding to Nigeria’s triumph, the Super Falcons were honored as the Women’s National Team of the Year.
This year’s CAF Awards celebrated African football excellence, with Nigerian talents shining brightly on the continental stage.
