AIRPORT CAB DRIVERS REJECT VEHICLE POLICY, SAY ₦18 MILLION CARS ARE BEYOND REACH

Airport taxi drivers have protested a new directive by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) requiring all airport cab operators to use vehicles manufactured from 2020 onwards.

The protest gained attention after a video circulated on social media, showing drivers expressing concern over the policy. They argued that purchasing vehicles that meet the new requirement would place a heavy financial burden on them, as such vehicles are estimated to cost at least ₦18 million.

Speaking during the protest, the drivers appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the general public to intervene, saying many operators cannot afford to replace their vehicles amid the country’s current economic challenges.

The protesters also claimed that FAAN plans to introduce a digital application for airport taxi services, expressing fears that the new measures could threaten their livelihoods.

They urged the authorities to reconsider the policy, stressing that many drivers depend on airport taxi operations as their primary source of income and would struggle to comply with the new vehicle requirement.
