Political tension is rising in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign exchanging accusations over security and alleged attempts to influence the outcome of the poll.
The APC campaign council accused Governor Adeleke of using his constitutional prerogative of mercy to secretly release convicted criminals and suspects facing serious charges, alleging that some of them were being recruited to disrupt the election.
Speaking on behalf of the APC campaign in Osun Central, Adebayo Adeleke claimed that several inmates had been released from correctional facilities over the past two months under what he described as questionable circumstances.
The allegations have further heightened the political atmosphere in the state as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
