#APC and SDP Exchange Words Regarding Assault on INEC REC’s Home in Kogi

In a development following the Kogi State Governorship election, where the APC emerged victorious on November 14, the SDP, which secured the second position, has rejected the election results. The party is currently in court challenging the declaration of Usman Ododo of the APC as the successor to Yahaya Bello in Lugarad House.

The incident on Friday, where the residence of the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Gabriel Longpet, was attacked by unknown armed hoodlums, adds another layer of tension to the post-election scenario. The police guards on duty engaged the attackers in a gun duel, preventing them from gaining access to the premises. The Sienna Bus used by the assailants was found burnt at the frontage of the house.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, has ordered a thorough investigation into the attack. In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP William Ayah, the Commissioner commended the bravery and diligence of the guards on duty. He condemned the attack and tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to initiate an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner assured the people of Kogi State of the Command’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety of lives and property. He urged citizens to collaborate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information on criminal activities, facilitating prompt and commensurate responses.
