The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for calling on US President Donald Trump to “save Nigeria’s democracy”.

Turaki made the appeal on Monday after taking control of the PDP national secretariat in Abuja following a prolonged internal dispute. According to him, Nigeria’s democracy is in urgent need of foreign assistance.
He claimed the situation in the country goes beyond political tension, saying:
“What is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians. President Trump should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I call on all developed nations to intervene.”

Responding, APC spokesperson Felix Morka described Turaki’s remarks as irresponsible and a direct attack on Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“For someone declared chairman just 72 hours ago by a faction of his already divided party, Turaki appeared desperate, confused, incoherent, and clearly overwhelmed by his party’s crisis,” Morka said.

He argued that Turaki should be seeking reconciliation within the PDP instead of inviting foreign intervention, adding that such a call amounts to a dangerous undermining of national security.
“Turaki’s first act as factional chairman was to invite foreign involvement in Nigeria’s affairs as a solution to the PDP’s self-created chaos. It is shameless, unpatriotic, and a threat to our sovereignty,” he said.
Morka noted that throughout the PDP’s 16-year rule, no leader ever solicited foreign powers to resolve party disputes, insisting Turaki’s plea confirms the party’s inability to manage its own internal conflicts.

He urged the international community to disregard Turaki’s statements, describing them as a distraction from the PDP’s internal failures. He also accused the opposition of attempting to use foreign interference to push a “sinister political agenda”.
The APC called on Nigerians to remain committed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration and continue supporting efforts to strengthen national stability and development.
