APC: NO THREAT TO CONVENTION

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns that its upcoming national convention in Abuja could be disrupted, insisting that preparations are on track for a successful event.

National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said the convention will go ahead as scheduled on Saturday at Eagle Square, in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s internal guidelines. He described a legal challenge by a South-South vice chairmanship aspirant, Fubara Dagogo, as baseless and not strong enough to affect the process.

According to him, over 7,000 delegates are expected to attend, while zonal congresses are already being held across the six geopolitical zones to elect party officials ahead of the main event.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said the convention would mark a major step in strengthening the party’s internal structure and democratic processes.

The party’s screening committee, led by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has already cleared key officials, including the National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, to contest. Yilwatda noted that the APC has evolved into a more transparent and institution-driven party where all members are subject to due process.

Basiru, who is the sole candidate for National Secretary, said the convention would help reposition the party and strengthen its structure from the grassroots to the national level. He also revealed plans to activate the National Advisory Council after the convention to provide strategic direction.

In a related development, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the party is gaining more strength, especially following recent defections, including that of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.

Despite the court case and internal complaints, party leaders remain confident that nothing will stop the convention, describing it as a crucial moment for unity and consolidation within the APC.
