The Nigerian Army has honoured its late former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, by naming a newly completed complex at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) in Lagos after him.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the project reflects the Army’s continued commitment to strengthening professional military education, improving administrative efficiency and enhancing personnel welfare through modern infrastructure.
The newly commissioned facility is expected to support the college’s training, administrative and welfare activities while helping to develop highly skilled logistics personnel capable of improving the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
Shaibu described the late General Lagbaja as a distinguished military leader whose dedication, professionalism, integrity and service to the nation continue to inspire officers and soldiers. He noted that naming the complex in his honour recognizes his lasting contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian Army.
He also encouraged officers, instructors and students of the institution to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism and excellence that the late Army chief represented.
According to the Army Chief, continuous investment in training institutions, modern infrastructure and personnel welfare remains a key part of efforts to build a more professional, combat-ready and resilient Nigerian Army capable of meeting today’s security challenges.
In a separate operation, troops of the 65 Battalion arrested 24 foreign nationals during a security raid in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The operation was carried out after security agencies received credible intelligence about the presence of undocumented foreign nationals within the area. Working alongside members of a local vigilante group, troops raided a fenced compound in Imokun, along the Odo-Noforija/Poka axis of Epe, where they apprehended 15 men and nine women.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are citizens of Cameroon, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, the Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau. Authorities are investigating their immigration status, the purpose of their stay in Nigeria and whether they have any links to criminal activities.
Security operatives are also working to identify and question the owner of the property where the foreign nationals were found.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, for further investigation and necessary administrative action in accordance with immigration laws.
The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to sustain efforts aimed at combating illegal immigration, criminal activities and other security threats within the division’s area of responsibility.
