Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have unanimously endorsed Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during a press conference held at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin, where lawmakers dismissed claims that Salihu did not emerge through a valid party primary. According to the legislators, the APC governorship primary was properly conducted and witnessed by party members and stakeholders.
Speaking on behalf of the Assembly, House Leader Abdulkadir Magaji described reports challenging Salihu’s emergence as misleading, insisting that the process that produced the APC flagbearer was transparent and legitimate. He maintained that attempts to discredit the outcome were aimed at creating unnecessary division within the party.
The lawmakers expressed confidence in Salihu’s leadership abilities, describing him as a capable and experienced politician who possesses the qualities required to sustain the developmental strides of the current administration.
The endorsement comes amid growing political discussions within the Kwara APC following the emergence of Salihu as the party’s governorship candidate. While some party stakeholders have raised concerns over his candidacy, supporters insist he remains the best option to lead the party into the 2027 election.
Salihu, who currently serves as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, secured the APC governorship ticket after defeating several other aspirants during the party’s primary election. His emergence marked a significant political milestone, making him one of the leading figures in the race to succeed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The Assembly’s endorsement is expected to strengthen his position within the party as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
