An associate of late transport union leader Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, has paid tribute to him, describing the deceased as a mentor whose generosity, compassion, and support for others made a lasting impression.
Toba Ijaya, who served as the organising secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was also known as a close associate of the union’s state chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly called Sego.
He was killed after armed men attacked his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on Sunday, July 12, 2026. He later died from injuries sustained during the attack and was buried at his residence in Ketu, Lagos, where family members, friends, union members, and sympathisers gathered to honour him.
In an emotional tribute shared on Facebook by Maxwell Onwordi-MaxfocusMedia, the speaker described Toba Ijaya as a man who consistently showed kindness and never ignored people who came to him for assistance.
He recalled that Toba Ijaya would make time for everyone who sought his help, even when many people were waiting to meet him. According to him, the late union leader ensured that those who visited him left feeling valued and encouraged.
The associate also praised his calm nature and welcoming attitude, noting that many people felt comfortable sharing their challenges with him because he listened patiently and offered support without judgment.
He further revealed that Toba Ijaya was involved in several humanitarian activities, including sponsoring the education of many children and running a foundation that supported widows, elderly people, and vulnerable members of society.
According to the tribute, his charitable efforts were carried out quietly without seeking public attention, with his focus remaining on improving the lives of people around him.
While mourning his death, the speaker encouraged those inspired by Toba Ijaya’s life to continue his acts of kindness and maintain the values of service and compassion that he represented.
Describing him as a mentor and a dependable figure, he prayed for the late union leader’s soul to rest peacefully.
