#Bandits kill nine, abduct ex-CBN director, 34 others

Bandits reportedly claimed the lives of at least nine individuals in Kwasam community, Kauru LGA, and Gwada community, Igabi LGA, both located in Kaduna State. Among the victims were a retired Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Zakariya Markus, his brother, and the brother’s wife. Additionally, the assailants abducted 35 others, leaving nine people injured during the attacks.

In Kauru LGA, six individuals lost their lives, five were abducted, and two sustained injuries. Meanwhile, in Igabi LGA, three people were killed, seven injured, and 30 others kidnapped during the tragic incidents that transpired on a recent Friday night around 10 pm.

Sources indicate that the bandits entered the community and, at gunpoint, compelled two individuals to lead them to the residence of the retired CBN official. Subsequently, they abducted him, as well as his brother and the brother’s wife. Residents attempting to rescue the victims were met with gunfire, resulting in six fatalities and two injuries.

The victims include Danmasani Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata. The kidnapped individuals comprise Mr. Zakariya Markus (retired CBN director), Mr. Monday Markus (brother of the retired CBN director), Monday Markus’ wife, Mr. Alhamdu Makeri’s son, and Baban Fati of Kauru.

In response to the attacks, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has called for robust military operations against bandits across the state.
