Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that a tactical mistake made during a second-half hydration break contributed to his team’s shock exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after Brazil’s Round of 16 defeat to Norway, Ancelotti said his side had been in control before the scheduled cooling break. However, he acknowledged that changes he made during the pause disrupted the team’s balance and allowed Norway to seize the initiative.
The veteran coach accepted responsibility for the defeat, explaining that although Norway enjoyed possession before the break, Brazil remained comfortable. He believes the tactical adjustments made during the stoppage proved costly, with Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal that ended Brazil’s hopes of winning a sixth World Cup title.
Despite the disappointment, Ancelotti insisted he remains committed to leading Brazil and views the painful exit as an opportunity to rebuild ahead of future tournaments.
