BREAKING: 32-year-old YPP lawmaker Dewan Gabriel emerges new Plateau assembly speaker

The member representing Pankshin North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Gabriel Dawang, has emerged the new Speaker.

The emergence of the 32-year-old member of the Young People’s Party (YPP) followed the resignation of the former Speaker, Moses Sule, and his deputy, Gwottaon Fom.

Hon. Sule is a member representing Mikang State constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation comes amidst a wave of political challenges faced by the PDP in Plateau State, including recent judgement of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the electoral victories of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and five PDP federal lawmakers from the State.

Meanwhile, Hon. Timothy Dantong representing Riyom constituency is now the new deputy speaker of the Assembly.

Also, the member representing Langtang North State constituency and also the chairman, House Committee on Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Joseph Nannim Langyi, is now the Deputy Chief Whip of the House.

However, the developments have fueled speculations that the resignation of the Speaker may be linked to the broader issues confronting the PDP in the state.

The belief is that more members of the PDP in the State House of Assembly may soon have their days in the Court of Appeal, which is believed that it will follow the same pattern similar to the removal of other PDP legislators at the federal level.
