Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to be present at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake to cheer on the Nigerian team.
According to a reliable source close to the Presidency, the Vice President was en route to Cote d’Ivoire as of 12:05 pm local time (1:05 pm in Nigeria).
The impromptu visit was prompted by unfavorable weather conditions in Maiduguri, his initial destination.
Shettima’s physical presence makes him the highest-ranking Nigerian official to support the team since the commencement of the competition.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, Peter Obi, were also present during the quarterfinal’s 1-0 victory over Angola last Friday.
The crucial match is scheduled for 5 pm local time (6 pm in Nigeria).
