#BREAKING: Akeredolu’s Former Deputy Secures Victory in Ondo PDP Primary

Headlinenews.news reports that Former deputy governor in Ondo State, Hon. Ajayi Agboola, emerged victorious in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in the state.

Agboola secured 264 votes during the party primary held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, surpassing his closest rival, former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo, who received 157 votes.

Having served as the former deputy governor to the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Agboola and Akeredolu went their separate ways due to irreconcilable differences. Despite attempts to impeach Ajayi during the crisis between him and the late Akeredolu, they were unsuccessful.

Agboola is set to compete against another former deputy to Akeredolu and the incumbent governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who won the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the election held from Saturday to Sunday, Aiyedatiwa secured 48,569 votes in the primary, defeating his closest rival Mayowa Akinfolarin, who garnered 15,343 votes.

Olusola Oke came in third with 14,865 votes, with the governor losing Ilaje Local Government Area to Oke, who clinched the third position.
