#BREAKING: Blaze Engulfs Iconic Sango Market in Ibadan, Resulting in Millions in Property Loss

Millions of naira worth of goods and properties were lost overnight as a fire ravaged the renowned Sango market in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state. The incident, which transpired on Sunday, February 4, 2024, was attributed to an electrical spark, impacting over 20 shops within the market.

This unfortunate event follows a recent incident at Ire Akari Estate, Soka, Ibadan. Affected shop owners expressed the challenges they face in rebuilding their businesses, emphasizing the profound impact on their livelihoods.

Market traders conveyed their shock at the extensive damage caused by the fire, describing it as overwhelming and unbearable. Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government sealed off a branch of Christ Life Church in Golden Estate, Oluyole, Ibadan, citing noise pollution concerns.

Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, explained that the government’s action became necessary due to unresolved attempts to mediate noise-related disputes between residents and the church management. He emphasized that the ministry had taken several steps, including official letters and phone calls, in response to complaints about incessant noise since Thursday, November 9, 2023.
