#BREAKING: Gold Quest: Otokini Ogwuche Sets Sights on Victory for Team Chevron in Oil and Gas Games

Headlinenews.news reports that the 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, NOGIG 2024, continued on Wednesday at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Complex in Abuja, with various events progressing towards the semi-finals and final stages.

In chess, Otokini Ogwuche of Chevron claimed gold in the women’s event, while Team Total Energies emerged victorious in the men’s category. Ogwuche, who successfully defended her title from the last edition, expressed her joy, stating, “It was fun. I am just too happy that I retained my gold medal. I need tougher challengers.” Additionally, she secured gold and silver in swimming, winning the 50 meters breaststroke event and butterfly respectively. “I am also in contention for the table tennis medal,” she added.

In table tennis, Joseph Adebayo of NCDMB faced off against his Exxon Mobil counterpart in a gripping men’s singles quarter-final match. Adebayo, the silver medalist in the previous edition, advanced to the semi-final after a hard-fought victory. Reflecting on his win, Adebayo commented, “The match was good, both offensively and defensively. The guy from Exxon Mobil was good, I was lucky I had an edge over him.”

In tennis, finalists emerged in the men’s and women’s singles events. Princess Akata of PTI will compete against Effiong Eje of Total Energies in the women’s final, while in the men’s singles category, Awin Gajang and Williams Ibiba, both representing NNPC, will face off in the final.

The Squash courts saw action as well, with Tope Fatoki of Shell defeating Banjo Onasanya of NNPC to advance to the final in the men’s veterans category. Ikechukwu Ewa of NLNG will compete against Gangangha Taridouy of NCDMB in the other semi-final. In the men’s singles final, Ikechukwu Ewa is poised for double honors as he will face Jauro Rimantari of NNPC in the semi-final match, while Lapo Faturoti of Shell will battle Joseph Amali of NNPC in the other semi-final match.
