#Breaking News: Nigeria Mourns as Major General Y.Y. Kure, Aged 84, Breathes His Last in Kaduna.

Major General Yohanna Yerima Kure, commonly known as Y.Y passed away at the age of 84 in Kaduna after a prolonged illness, Headlinesnews. news report.

He played a significant role in Nigeria’s military history, serving as a member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council from 1985 to 1987 during Ibrahim Babangida’s administration. Additionally, he was part of the Supreme Military Council of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985 under Buhari’s military government.

Gen Y.Y. Kure held key positions in the Nigerian Army, including General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Armour Division in Enugu and the 2 Mechanised Division in Ibadan. He also served as the Director of Army Special Duties and Plans.

His notable achievements include successfully suppressing the Maitatsine fanatical group in Kano in 1980 and Yola in 1982. Born on April 22, 1939, into the royal family of Mallam Manchaik Kure and Mallama Tawok Kure in Kurmin Musa, Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, he enlisted in the Nigerian Army through the prestigious Nigerian Military Training College (now NDA) in 1963 and received his commission as an officer in 1964.

General Y.Y. Kure’s funeral is scheduled for December 1, 2023, in his hometown of Kurmin Musa, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as announced by the family.
