The attackers reportedly stormed the school at about 9 a.m., firing gunshots into the air and causing panic among students, teachers and residents before whisking away several students.

Reports also indicate that one teacher was killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said several students were still missing following the assault.

According to him, armed Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters invaded the school, fired sporadically and abducted an unspecified number of students before fleeing the area.

Daso noted that the police could not immediately verify reports of casualties.

He disclosed that a joint search-and-rescue operation involving the Nigerian military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), police personnel and the Area Commander in Askira/Uba had been launched.

Security operatives are currently combing nearby forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
