Headlinenews.news reports that Abass Mimiko, the younger sibling of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for the forthcoming November elections in Ondo State. The declaration was made on Wednesday during the ZLP primary election held at the party’s headquarters in Akure. Party members unanimously endorsed Abass Mimiko as their candidate.
In his acceptance speech, Mimiko, a medical professional, outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing key areas such as education, healthcare, the economy, and security.
“We are a formidable contender in this election; we will ensure food security, aiming to achieve a surplus of food in Ondo State within a year of assuming office,” he asserted.
Mimiko also promised to prioritize accessible and high-quality education, industrial growth, housing, and free healthcare services for all residents of Ondo State.
Acknowledging the support he has received, Mimiko recognized his brother’s endorsement and expressed confidence in his gubernatorial ambitions.
“My brother is pleased with my candidacy as he believes I will continue his legacy,” he remarked.
The primary election was preceded by a state congress, during which Cornelius Akintoye was elected as the new state chairman of ZLP in Ondo State.
