#BREAKING:Namibia’s New Leader: 82-Year-Old Nangolo Mbumba Inaugurated as President

Eighty-two-year-old Dr. Nangolo Mbumba has been inaugurated as Namibia’s fourth President. Formerly the Vice President since 2018, he took the oath of office on Sunday in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, administered by Chief Justice Peter Shivute.

Born on August 15, 1941, Mbumba is affiliated with the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO).

Over the years, he held various ministerial positions in Namibia, including Agriculture, Water, and Rural Development (1993–1996), Finance (1996–2003), Information and Broadcasting (2003–2005), Education (2005–2010), and Safety and Security (2010–2012). From 2012 to 2017, he served as the secretary-general of SWAPO.

Earlier reports by this online medium conveyed the announcement of President Geingob’s death on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek.

Diagnosed with cancer, he passed away at the age of 82.

As the acting president, Mbumba revealed the President’s demise, describing him as the nation’s pillar and chief architect of its constitution.

Despite the medical team’s best efforts, President Geingob succumbed to his illness with his wife, Monica Geingos, and children by his side.

In his condolence message, Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, characterized the late Namibian President as a democracy veteran, advocate of good governance, and promoter of economic, social, and political solidarity among African nations.

Tinubu expressed deep condolences and solidarity with Namibia during this period of mourning.
