BRITISH WOMAN AND UNBORN BABY DIE IN NIGERIA AFTER PREGNANCY COMPLICATIONS

A 40-year-old British woman, Claire Chadwick, and her unborn daughter have died in Nigeria following complications towards the end of her pregnancy, leaving their family devastated and appealing for financial assistance to return their remains to the United Kingdom.

Chadwick, who was originally from Cardiff, Wales, was reportedly 37 weeks pregnant and expecting a baby girl with her Nigerian husband, Ibrahim, when the tragedy occurred.

According to reports, the unborn child died in the womb before Chadwick developed sepsis, a life-threatening condition that subsequently progressed to septic shock, resulting in her death.

The woman had relocated from the United Kingdom to Nigeria to begin a new life with her husband. The couple had attracted thousands of followers on social media through videos documenting their relationship, married life, religious faith and food challenges on TikTok and Instagram.

Following the deaths, Chadwick’s sister, Shannon, launched a GoFundMe campaign on October 30, 2026, titled Bringing Claire Home, with an initial target of £10,000.

The fundraising initiative is intended to cover the legal, administrative and logistical expenses involved in repatriating Claire and her unborn daughter to the United Kingdom for burial.

In the appeal, Shannon explained that the family was struggling with the unexpected arrangements and costs associated with bringing their loved ones home.

She said their greatest wish was to have both mother and daughter returned to the UK so they could be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by family members.

The fundraising campaign has since exceeded its initial £10,000 target, attracting hundreds of donations from supporters moved by the family’s loss.

Chadwick is survived by her 19-year-old son, who lives in Wales, her husband, Ibrahim, and other relatives.

Describing her late sister, Shannon said she was a strong-minded woman who lived life on her own terms and left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

She also acknowledged the support of REST, a UK-based charity that assists families dealing with the sudden or tragic deaths of loved ones abroad.

Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in from friends, relatives and social media followers, many of whom have expressed sadness over the deaths of Claire and her unborn daughter.
