Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been praised after delivering a match-winning performance in a dramatic 3–2 Premier League victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, a result that further strengthened growing confidence in interim manager Michael Carrick.
Mainoo, who recently signed a long-term contract extension, scored the decisive 77th-minute goal, with stadium announcers highlighting the importance of the homegrown 21-year-old as he continues to rise as a key figure for the club.
The young midfielder had previously attracted loan interest from Napoli, but the move was blocked, and he also struggled for regular starts earlier in the season. However, his form has improved significantly since Carrick took charge, with many observers crediting the manager’s trust and tactical adjustments for unlocking his potential.

Under his leadership, United have also secured qualification for the Champions League after a two-year absence, with the team winning 10 of their last 14 matches during his tenure—one of the strongest runs in the league over that period.
Despite speculation about his long-term future, Carrick has remained focused on the present, stating that he is enjoying the role while acknowledging that final decisions will come later. The club’s hierarchy is expected to make a full assessment at the end of the season.
Former player Dion Dublin also praised Carrick’s impact, pointing to improved game management, substitutions, and team spirit as key reasons for the club’s recent success.
