The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, has urged Christians to embrace love, peace, and joy during Christmas. On Monday, he took to his social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, to emphasize the importance of leaders reaching out to the less privileged.
Expressing concern over the economic challenges facing Nigerians, Obi encouraged them not to let these difficulties hinder their appreciation of the essence of their creation and the significance of seeking God’s mercy at all times.
In his message, he said, “I extend warm wishes for a Merry Christmas to all, as we join the Christendom in celebrating the anniversary of Jesus Christ. This season symbolizes love, peace, and joy for all mankind—values that unite us in a feast of love.”
“I aspire to share the spirit of this season with all our compatriots, regardless of station, circumstance, or persuasion. Despite the challenges our dear country faces, including economic hardship, the adverse effects of poor government policies, and inadequate governance, let us not be deterred from appreciating the essence of our existence and the importance of seeking God’s mercy at all times.”
Obi continued, addressing leaders, “Charity underscores compassion for the people in their current hardship. As a community, charity means sharing our material blessings with our neighbors and the less privileged. On this special occasion, I want to reassure our people that our adversity will not persist for too long as we look forward to a New Nigeria.”
