CODE OF CONDUCT TRIBUNAL CHAIRMAN EMPLOYED WIFE, OTHER RELATIVES, HIRED FINANCE DIRECTOR UNDER EFCC PROBE, STAFF TELL TINUBU

The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mainasara Umar Kogo, has been accused of alleged misconduct, abuse of office, and administrative irregularities just months after his appointment.

He was appointed on November 27, 2024, following the removal of former CCT Chairman Danladi Umar over similar allegations of misconduct.

According to documents and internal memos reportedly obtained by SaharaReporters, staff members accused Kogo of altering tribunal decisions after panel rulings were made in open court, allegedly inserting changes outside formal proceedings.

He is also accused of violating federal character principles through alleged preferential employment practices, with claims that a significant portion of staff were recruited from his region and close associates.

Among the most serious allegations is the appointment of his wife, Zainab Aliyu, as an Administrative Officer II at the tribunal in 2025, with claims that she has remained on payroll despite reportedly not being physically present at work for months.

Additional allegations include the appointment of close relatives, alleged intimidation of staff, unilateral contract awards, and irregular administrative practices within the tribunal.

Internal documents also referenced concerns over missing official files, prompting an internal “state of emergency” memo calling for a search of documents across departments.

Staff unions further raised issues about alleged mismanagement of official vehicles, improper allocation of resources, and the appointment of aides outside approved procedures.

The tribunal chairman has not publicly responded to the allegations, and efforts to reach him for comment were reportedly unsuccessful at the time of publication.

The aggrieved staff have called for a review of the tribunal’s leadership, warning that continued irregularities could undermine public confidence in the institution.
