Popular Nigerian content creator DJ Chicken has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after pleading not guilty to charges arising from a viral video in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while discussing the 2027 presidential election.
The social media personality appeared before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge involving alleged threat to life, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

According to the prosecution, the charges followed a video posted on DJ Chicken’s social media accounts last week in which he allegedly made threatening comments directed at Seyi Tinubu during a conversation about the 2027 presidential election.
The prosecution argued that the statements constituted a criminal threat and also violated provisions of the Cybercrime Act.
After the video sparked public criticism, DJ Chicken released another clip apologising for his remarks. He explained that the comments were intended as a joke to generate online attention and maintained that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu.

Despite the apology, the Lagos State Government continued with the legal proceedings.
The first charge accuses the content creator of publishing a video containing an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second count alleges that he transmitted a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.
The third charge claims that his actions were capable of causing a breach of the peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The court granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the same amount. One surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader who owns landed property in Lagos State.
The court also ordered both sureties to provide three years of tax clearance certificates, a Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) card, National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. In addition, one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Unable to meet the bail conditions immediately, DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of the requirements.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further hearing.
