The Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that any candidate capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential election must possess strong integrity and an unblemished record.

Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed maintained his position that the Labour Party was the rightful winner of the 2023 presidential election, comparing it to the historic June 12 election whose result was not officially declared but is widely acknowledged.

He questioned the integrity of the electoral process, alleging irregularities and suggesting that the ruling party has contributed to weakening democratic institutions. According to him, governance priorities have been misplaced, with concerns raised over insecurity, economic challenges, and alleged corruption.

He further argued that only individuals with proven moral character should be entrusted with the responsibility of challenging the current leadership, insisting that Nigeria still has capable citizens with integrity who have remained outside active politics.

In addition, Baba-Ahmed announced his decision to leave the Labour Party, citing internal disagreements and a departure from the party’s original values. He confirmed that he would be joining the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), describing it as a historic political movement with longstanding ideological roots.
