Davido Calls on Donald Trump to Monitor Osun 2026 Governorship Election
Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido, whose family has strong ties to Osun State and who is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, made the appeal in a post on X ahead of the election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The singer expressed concern over the political tension in the state and warned of possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
Tagging Trump’s official X account, Davido urged the US government and the international community to pay attention to the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and uphold the integrity of the process.
He wrote:
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process.”
Davido stressed that residents of Osun should be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and without fear.
He added, “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
The singer’s latest appeal comes after he previously indicated that he would contact Trump if anything went wrong during the election.
The post has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users supporting Davido’s call for international attention, while others questioned why he was appealing to the US president over an election taking place in Nigeria.
Several critics also accused the singer of becoming more vocal because the election directly involves his family, while others argued that international observers could help draw attention to potential electoral violence.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term in office.
