Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on residents of Osun State to ignore intimidation and come out peacefully to vote in the upcoming governorship election.
The singer made the appeal on Wednesday after attending a stakeholders’ meeting on electoral security and transparency at the Imole House in Osogbo. The meeting focused on security arrangements, the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the need for a free, fair, and credible election ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship poll.
Davido’s comments come as political tension continues to rise between supporters of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
The music star, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Adeleke, currently serves as the Head of Youth Mobilisation for the governor’s re-election campaign.
Addressing supporters and eligible voters, Davido urged residents not to allow fear or threats to stop them from exercising their democratic rights.
“Reject intimidation and let your voice be heard,” he said, adding that, “Your vote is your voice.”
He also appealed to politicians, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together to ensure that the election remains peaceful before, during and after voting.
Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking a second term in office when Osun residents head to the polls on August 15.
The election comes amid reports of political clashes in several parts of the state, including Ayedaade, Boripe, Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas.
Governor Adeleke has previously accused members of the opposition APC of trying to destabilise the state ahead of the election, an allegation the party has denied.
With only a few days left before the election, political campaigns have intensified across Osun State, while security agencies and election observers continue to call for peace and a credible electoral process.
