DEFECTION TWIST: SENATOR MARAFA DUMPS ADC FOR NDC

Former Senator representing Zamfara Central in the 7th and 8th National Assembly, Kabir Marafa, has officially left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressing goodwill toward his former party.

His defection comes just weeks after he had encouraged his supporters in Zamfara State to begin a membership registration drive for the ADC, making the move a notable shift in his political alignment ahead of the next election cycle.

Marafa announced his decision in Abuja during a reception held at the residence of Senator Seriake Dickson, where he was formally welcomed into the NDC. He said his departure was based on reflection over issues of fairness, inclusion, and internal democracy within political parties.

He explained that concerns about party structures, congress processes, and perceived imbalances in political appointments—especially within the All Progressives Congress (APC)—influenced his decision to realign politically.

According to him, political engagement should be rooted in fairness and equal opportunity, stressing that contributions to party success should be properly recognized and rewarded.

Marafa also noted his past role in the formation and success of the APC in Zamfara State, expressing disappointment that such contributions, in his view, were not adequately reflected in leadership decisions and appointments.

He maintained that his move was not motivated by personal ambition but by a desire to support a platform that aligns with principles of inclusion, equity, and participatory politics. He also emphasized that internal democracy remains essential for strengthening Nigeria’s political system.

In response, Senator Seriake Dickson, who received him into the party, described Marafa as a seasoned politician whose presence would boost the NDC’s strength in Zamfara and the wider North-West region.

Dickson added that Marafa is expected to contribute to party organization, grassroots mobilization, and policy direction, particularly in addressing insecurity and promoting development in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
