DELTA NORTH BATTLE: OCHEI EMERGES APC FRONTRUNNER FOR 2027 SENATE RACE

A new political analysis ahead of the 2027 general elections has projected a heated contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket in Delta North, with former Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Victor Ochei, emerging as a leading contender.

The assessment, released by public affairs analyst Omobola Itaye, suggests that Ochei currently holds an advantage over former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and serving Senator Ned Nwoko, based on growing grassroots support and increasing influence among young voters across the Anioma political axis.

According to the report, the Delta North senatorial race is shaping up into a three-way contest among prominent political figures, each representing different political interests and structures within the state.

While acknowledging Okowa’s long political career, which includes roles as commissioner, Secretary to the State Government, senator, governor, and 2023 vice-presidential candidate, the report noted that concerns about political dominance during his administration and ongoing scrutiny by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may influence public perception.

Senator Ned Nwoko was described as a high-profile lawmaker known for his advocacy on malaria eradication and diaspora engagement. However, the report noted that his political base appears less integrated into Delta’s traditional political structure, which could affect his ability to secure the APC ticket.

In contrast, Victor Ochei was presented as a unifying figure with both legislative experience and strong ties within existing political networks in Delta State. His tenure as Speaker of the state assembly was highlighted as evidence of his consensus-building ability and political stability.

The report added that Ochei’s positioning allows him to draw support across different political groups without significant resistance, placing him in a strategic position ahead of the primaries.

It also linked the evolving political landscape to broader realignments under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, noting increased calls for inclusive leadership and balanced representation.

Overall, the analysis suggests that the outcome of the APC senatorial contest in Delta North may depend on whether voters favor continuity, established political influence, or a shift toward renewed and more inclusive leadership.
