DON’T GO TO COURT, OBI URGES NDC MEMBERS AGAINST LITIGATION

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid taking internal party disputes to court, warning that such legal battles could weaken efforts to build a strong political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi made the appeal in a video message circulating on Sunday, shortly after he and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso were seen receiving membership cards of the party, suggesting their formal involvement in the platform.

He urged party members to prioritise unity, discipline, and internal resolution of conflicts, stressing that litigation has historically contributed to the collapse or weakening of political parties in Nigeria.

According to him, members should avoid dragging party matters to court so that attention can remain focused on building what he described as a “new Nigeria.”

Obi also emphasised his broader political vision, calling for a country where opportunities are based on merit rather than connections, and where citizens can thrive regardless of background.

He warned that indiscipline and internal crises could destabilise the party at a crucial stage of its formation, adding that firm steps may be taken to maintain order.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments among opposition figures working toward a possible coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Obi and Kwankwaso reportedly held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the NDC, including former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, as part of wider consultations aimed at strengthening opposition unity.

Obi recently exited the African Democratic Congress, citing internal crises and persistent legal disputes that he said hindered effective political organisation.

He reiterated that his political involvement is driven by national interest rather than personal ambition, stressing his commitment to improving living conditions for Nigerians.
