DRUG WAR BREAKTHROUGH: NDLEA DISMANTLES ₦16.9BN SYNDICATE, SEIZES 4.3 MILLION OPIOID PILLS IN LAGOS MEGA RAID

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered and dismantled three illicit drug storage facilities hidden within a residential estate in Lagos, seizing opioids valued at approximately N16.9 billion.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out on April 17, 2026, targeting properties in the Okota area within Park View Estate in Ago Palace Way.

At the locations on Olukayode Awofisayo Street and Charles Ndumetu Street, operatives discovered large quantities of controlled substances, including millions of high-strength tramadol tablets and bottles of codeine syrup, all packed in cartons and concealed within residential buildings.

Authorities described the haul as one of the most significant drug seizures in recent times, highlighting the scale and sophistication of trafficking operations being carried out under the guise of residential use.

The NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, said the operation represents a major blow to a powerful drug network, stressing that the agency is increasingly matching the tactics of traffickers with stronger intelligence and enforcement strategies.

He noted that the discovery of such large volumes of illicit drugs hidden in high-end residential areas reflects the growing desperation of criminal syndicates.

Marwa reaffirmed that no location in the country is safe for drug traffickers, adding that the agency will continue to dismantle their networks and disrupt their financial operations.

The NDLEA said the raid forms part of its broader nationwide campaign against drug abuse and trafficking, aimed at protecting public health and strengthening national security.
