South African pay-TV operator DStv has begun notifying subscribers that its Cine Magic channel will be discontinued at the end of June 2026, marking another change in its evolving channel lineup.
The channel, which is part of the M-Net stable, currently features on the most affordable EasyView bouquet. According to an on-screen notice on its schedule bar, Cine Magic will stop broadcasting on 30 June 2026.

Launched in November 2022, Cine Magic offers a 12-hour daily schedule of films, featuring a mix of African and international titles across multiple languages. It was introduced as part of DStv’s effort to broaden access to entertainment for lower-tier subscribers.
The channel debuted shortly after the launch of Magic Showcase on EasyView, another movie-focused service that also appears to have been quietly withdrawn. This is separate from Africa Magic Showcase, which remains available only on higher-tier packages such as channel 151.

At the time of launch, then M-Net CEO Nomsa Philiso said the channels were designed to ensure that more subscribers could access award-winning local and international content.
DStv owner Canal+ has not yet provided an explanation for the closure of Cine Magic, despite requests for comment. Any response is expected to be added once available.
EasyView Bouquet Under Pressure
Recent changes suggest a broader shift in DStv’s strategy around its entry-level EasyView package. The bouquet has reportedly become less visible on the company’s website, with the more affordable Access package now appearing as the lowest-tier option in online listings.

Users searching for EasyView on the DStv website have also reportedly been unable to find it, with subscription options instead directing them to higher-priced packages or DStv Stream offerings.
Canal+ has indicated that its online offerings are being aligned with DStv Stream packages, which do not include EasyView. However, EasyView remains available through alternative channels such as call centres and WhatsApp support.
Following the closure of Cine Magic, the EasyView bouquet will still offer 35 channels in South Africa.
New Channel Addition for Other Packages
While EasyView users face reductions, subscribers on DStv Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium will receive a new addition next month.
DStv recently announced the introduction of Novelas+, a Canal+ flagship telenovela channel popular in French-speaking African markets. It will replace Tlnovelas, which was removed from channel 133 in January 2026.
In South Africa, programming on Novelas+ will be dubbed in English, while Portuguese versions will be available in markets such as Angola and Mozambique.
Former M-Net executive and current Canal+ content director for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, Nomsa Philiso, said telenovelas continue to resonate strongly with African audiences.
She noted that the company is focusing on curating and localising high-quality global drama content, including Turkish telenovelas, which have grown in international popularity.
Further details on DStv’s year-to-date channel adjustments are expected to follow in an official breakdown.
