The APC primary election for the September 21, 2024 governorship election has resulted in a contested outcome, with two candidates being declared winners. Initially, Dennis Idahosa was announced the victor by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the election committee chairman. However, chaos erupted at the collation center, leading to Senator Monday Okpebholo being declared the winner by Dr. Ugbaja Stanley Uzoamaka, the State Returning Officer. The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadia, deemed Uzodimma’s announcement null and void, citing the constitutional role of the returning officer. Senator Okpebholo acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the primary before alleged thugs disrupted the collation center.
