To ensure it retains the state, the Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has launched a 200-man Campaign Council for the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Edo PDP Organising Secretary, Tony Anenih Jnr, said those in the campaign council are versatile members of the PDP, who were “carefully chosen to deliver the party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.”
According to him, the campaign structure has an Advisory Council to be headed by Governor, Godwin Obaseki; a Management Committee; a State Campaign Council made up of 200 eminent members of the PDP; the women wing to be headed by the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, and the youth wing to be led by the Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor.
Anenih explained that the selection process was carried out under the direct supervision of the leaders of the party headed by Governor Obaseki, adding, “I do not have any doubt whatsoever in my mind, that this group of very versatile members of the PDP that have been carefully chosen will deliver our erudite, intellectually sound and broad-minded candidate, Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo.”
In a statement, he said the campaign structure has the following features: “The advisory council has seven eminent members of the state, with His Excellency, the Governor as Chairman; the Management Committee is made up of the Director-General and 13 Deputy Directors General for Finance, Contact and Mobilization, Media/Publicity Field Operations, Security, among others; the State Campaign Council is made up of 200 eminent members of our party; the women wing to be led by Her Excellency, the first lady of the Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki with the wife of the PDP candidate, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, and the youth wing to be led by the Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor.”
On the youth and women wing, the State Organizing Secretary further noted, “Though these two very critical wings will be working independently, their relationship with the other directorates will be symbiotic.”
PDP’ll be unstoppab Meanwhile, the Deputy governor of Edo State, Marvellous Omobayo, has said that the developmental strides of the Governor Obaseki-led administration were enough to call for continuity and support for the candidate of the PDP, Dr lghodalo.
Omobayo commended the Governor for his foresight in engaging qualified engineers for the infrastructural development of the state.
He made the remarks when he hosted members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Benin Branch, led by its Chairman, Engr Evukowhiroro Ojeba, at Osadebey Avenue, Benin, Office of the Deputy Governor.
Omobayo said that his appointment and assumption of office as deputy governor were acts of God, noting that the engineering family played a vital role in moulding him to attain his present status.
He promised to be a good ambassador of the Engineering family, and pledged to uphold the noble ideals of the profession and support its activities.
Earlier in his speech, Ojeba said the Omobayo was one of their own and that the essence of their visit was to felicitate with him on his elevation to the number two position in Edo State, which he described as historic as he is the first Engineer in Edo to occupy the exalted office of Deputy Governor.
He said: “As professional engineers, we are here to identify with our own and we are proud of this great achievement.”
The highlight of the courtesy visit was the presentation of a souvenir and congratulatory card to the Deputy Governor by the leadership of the Engineering family.
