EFCC Apologises Over UUTH Incident, Promises Disciplinary Action
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a formal apology over a recent incident involving its operatives and medical staff at the Uyo University Teaching Hospital (UUTH), following a review of preliminary findings into the matter.
In a statement on Monday, the commission said its decision followed the consideration of a report on the May 12, 2026 incident, which involved EFCC personnel and hospital staff.
Olukoyede expresses regret
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, expressed regret over the disruption caused by the encounter, noting that it led to discomfort among hospital staff and members of the public.

According to the statement, the chairman directed that an official apology be extended to Professor Eyo Ekpe, Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UUTH, as well as members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Investigation and accountability promised
Olukoyede stressed that the commission takes the matter seriously and has commenced steps toward a full investigation to establish what transpired.
He assured that any officer found culpable after the probe would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the commission’s internal regulations.
The EFCC also reiterated its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future, while maintaining that such occurrences will not affect its core mandate of fighting economic and financial crimes across the country.
Call for continued cooperation
The commission further appealed to the Nigerian Medical Association and other professional bodies to continue supporting its anti-corruption efforts, noting that collaboration remains essential in achieving its objectives nationwide.
