All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Mrs. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, has alleged that operatives of the Ekiti State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) forcefully arrested her outside the Supreme Court in Abuja and took her to Ekiti State, where she was later arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court.
Olawumi shared her account of the incident amid growing public attention surrounding her arrest, which reportedly happened after the conclusion of a Supreme Court hearing involving her legal challenge against Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the APC.
She claimed that while leaving the court area, she was approached by RRS officers who allegedly compelled her to travel to Ekiti State.
According to her, the officers also seized her mobile phones and allegedly deleted information from one of the devices before returning them after her court appearance.
The allegations have sparked controversy, with the Ekiti State Government denying any involvement in the incident. The state government, through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata (SAN), said it neither ordered nor had prior knowledge of any police action involving Olawumi.
The government maintained that security agencies operate independently and rejected claims linking it to her arrest.
The controversy began after reports emerged that Olawumi was taken by armed individuals shortly after leaving the Court of Appeal in Abuja, where she had gone to obtain Certified True Copies of documents related to her legal dispute over the APC governorship primary election in Ekiti State.
Her supporters described the arrest as an attempt to interfere with her ongoing legal proceedings, while authorities have continued to deny the accusation.
The situation also involved Mrs. Yemisi Joluwe, CEO of YSJ Limited, who confirmed that she was the person who filed the complaint that led to Olawumi’s arrest. Joluwe accused Olawumi of blackmail, cyber harassment, and publishing her personal information online.
Joluwe also alleged that Olawumi was connected to the alleged abduction of two of her workers, stating that one of them was later killed. She said she was seeking justice through legal channels.
However, she expressed disappointment with the Ekiti State Government, saying she expected more support as an investor in the state.
Olawumi’s supporters have continued to argue that the timing of the arrest was aimed at affecting her legal battle, while the state government has maintained that it had no role in the matter.
