In a statement issued by a national commissioner, the electoral body explained that the adjustment became necessary after the poll was moved from August 8 to August 15, 2026, as part of updates to the broader 2027 general election schedule.

With the new date in place, political parties are now required to end all campaign activities by midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in compliance with the Electoral Act, which mandates that campaigns must stop 24 hours before election day.

INEC urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline to avoid breaching electoral laws.

The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and inclusive election in Osun State, assuring the public that necessary measures are being implemented to safeguard the process.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised by some civil society groups in Osun State over alleged irregularities within the electoral body, including claims of biased staff redeployments and possible manipulation of the process.

The groups warned that such developments could undermine confidence in the election if not addressed promptly, calling for greater transparency and fairness in the commission’s operations.
