#Elon Musk announces final date for removal of free Twitter verification

Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, has set the final date to remove free verified Twitter accounts for April 20, 2023.

Musk announced this in a terse tweet on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, saying: “Final date for removing legacy Blue checks is 4/20.”

Before Musk acquired the micro-blogging platform, verified Twitter users do not pay to get verified nor pay for a monthly subscription to renew their verifications.

Twitter in March announced through its ‘Verified Twitter’ handle (handle that takes care of verification), that it would from April 1, 2023, begin the removal of all legacy blue checks, but the date wasn’t enforced and another date was yesterday announced by Musk.

“On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue,” the company stated in March via a tweet that was accompanied by links to subscribe to the premium program.

With its removal, all verified accounts before Elon Musk took over the company will lose their verification badge and will be required to pay for Twitter Blue before they can get verified again.
